Limerick poem

A few weeks ago, Tui Whanau created a Limerick poem about anything you wanted. My poem is about my dog TJ. How we created was that the first two lines have to be 8-10 syllables long and have to rhyme, and the the third and fourth lines have to be 4-6 syllables long and have to rhyme. Lastly the last two lines have to have 8-10 syllables but the last word on the last line has to rhyme with the first two lines.

"There once was a dog that was called TJ,
She liked to chillax in her PJ's.
She always loves to sleep,
While she chews on her meat.
And now she gets ready to DJ."

Reflection:

What did I enjoy?
I enjoyed decorating my poem because I love to draw and come up with things to draw.

What did I find challenging?
I found coming up with things to rhyme with challenging because I had so many ideas but I didn't know to pick.

What could I improve on?
I think I could improve on decorating my poem more but I ran out of time.

Do you have a dog?

Maitai bay Brochure

W.A.L.T create a blog post showing and writing about my Maitai Bay Brochure

For Inquiry, our class Tui Whanau created a brochure about Maitai Bay.
In my brochure, I wrote what Maitai Bay is, where it is, what activities you can do, what marine life lives there, what is the rāhui and why was the rāhui placed there. Here is my Brochure I created.

Reflection:

What did I learn?
When researching information about Maitai Bay, I learnt what a rāhui was and what it was used for.

What did I find challenging?
I found organising everything challenging. I wanted it to look tidy so I took a long time.

What could I improve on?
I think I could improve on decorating my brochure more. It looks a little plain so I wish I could add more images.

Have you ever been to Maitai Bay?

Kiwi Can

W.A.L.T upload a blog post showing what we learnt in Kiwi Can.

Today our class, Tui Whanau, had Kiwi Can. Our word we are focusing on is 'Respect'. It means 'Treating others the way you want to be treated'. Our catchphrase today is 'We respect our school, we will do it because we're cool'. We played 2 games - Snap, Crackle, Pop and So Makalo. My favourite game was Snap, crackle, pop. How we played was we were in a circle and three people had to get in a group, once you've gotten in a group of 3, you need to put someone in the middle of the circle everyone is in. (We used a shoe). We then had to decide what person would be called Snap, Crackle, Pop, I was called Crackle, Desiree was called Snap and Sofia was called Pop. Once you've decided the names, someone will called out Snap, Crackle or Pop. If they call out Pop, that means Pop has to run around the circle. While the person that got called out is running, the two other people have to make a tunnel for the person running to go under. Once the person running has came back to their group, they have to go under the tunnel the two other people made, and grab what ever is in the middle. If they grab it, their group wins. Here is a photo (We were playing So, ma, co, lo).

Reflection:

How did I show respect?
When I was playing Snap, Crackle, Pop. Someone fell over while I was running and I asked them if they were ok. If my teammate lost, I didn't get mad at them.

What did I enjoy?
I enjoyed playing the games because they were fun and entertaining to play, I'd like to play the games again.

What could I improve on?
I think I could improve on sliding on the ground in Snap, Crackle, Pop because I got hurt once and I'd like to improve so next time I have a better chance of snatching the object.

Have you ever played been to Kiwi Can?

Trip to Te Puna Wai Ora pools.

On Tuesday our class, Tui Whanau went to Te Puna Wai Ora pools to learn how to snorkel. We had a marine reserves instructor called Oliver to teach us how to snorkel properly. Next week on Thursday we will be going on a trip to Maitai Bay to explore the marine reserves for the Experiencing marine reserves programme. We will be comparing Maitai Bay and Aroha Island to see the marine reserves differences and discover different fish.

Reflections:

What did I learn?
I learnt to breath out out of the snorkel when water got inside. Sometimes I would be to scared to breath using the snorkels because I was scared I would swallow the water.

What did I enjoy?
I enjoyed swimming in the water with my snorkels and mask on because it was entertaining swimming laps with the snorkels cause I could go underwater while breathing.

What is one goal you have with your ability in the water?
My goal is to learn how to breath underwater with the snorkels because sometimes the water got in my mouth.

Have you ever gone snorkelling?

Waitangi trip

W.A.L.T create a blog post explaining what we did at Waitangi.

On Tuesday, Our class, Tui Whānau went on a Waitangi trip by bus. We learnt a lot of stuff about carvings, scratch and Māori stuff. We got on the bus and drove away at 8:30 and got there at around 10 am. The people who guided us were Monika and Cailtin. My favourite part about Waitangi was playing around with scratch and looking at the canoes.

Reflections:

What did I enjoy?
I enjoyed looking at the cool carvings because they were interesting and made me wonder. I also enjoyed playing scratch because it was entertaining and fun to play around and make a game.

What did I find challenging?
I found trying to figure out how to do stuff on scratch because it was confusing.

Have you ever been to Waitangi?

Kiwi Can

W.A.L.T create a blog post explaining what we did at Kiwi Can

Today at Kiwi Can we played 5 games, I won't say all of them, but my favourite game was "Stop, walk, jump". The word today was again Accountability. It means taking responsibility and ownership of you actions, the catchphrase was also the same as last time.. How the game went was that there would be someone that would either called out Go, stop, clap and jump, except they said it in Maori so it was more challenging. If they called out go, you would have to walk until they said stop, and if they called out jump, you would have to jump (The same with clap.)

Reflection:

What did I enjoy?
I enjoyed playing all of the game, they were entertaining and fun.

What did I do well?
I think I listened and paid attention, most of the kids listened well and

Would you like to play this game? Have you ever had Kiwi Can?

Newspaper File

W.A.L.T create a blog post explaining our reading task for today.

For reading today we had a different teacher, Mr. Metzger. We had to fill in a piece of paper that was about Kiwi Kids News, there was different boxes that said something at the top, whatever it said at the top we had to find an article about what it said.
Here is my worksheet:

Reflection:

What did I enjoy?
I enjoyed looking at the cool and funny stuff on Kiwi Kids News because it was fascinating looking at the articles.

What did I do well?
I did well on finding articles for each box, it was pretty easy and joyful.

What could I improve on?
I think I could improve on having better handwriting when writing in the box.

Kiwi Can

W.A.L.T create a blog post explaining what we did at Kiwi Can.

At Kiwi Can today, we played 2 games, 1 activity. The word we are focusing on this term is Accountability. Accountability means taking ownership/responsibility for actions you have done and being honest. The catchphrase today was "We are honest, we are true, we take ownership for what we do." My favourite game we played today was this dancing game. The game was called "Impossible connections", basically we had to dance while music was playing, when the music stopped, one of the Kiwicaners had to call out a number and a body part. The number meant how much people in a group there would have to be, example, if she called out "three", you would have to get in a group of 3. Here's an example, if she called out "foot" you and the other people in your group would have to sit down touching feet with the other people in your group.

Reflection:

What did I enjoy?
I enjoyed playing the games, they were very entertaining and fun to play. I am glad that we played the games multiple times cause that means I could have a go again at doing the games.

What did I find challenging?
I found listening to the Kiwicaners difficult, I couldn't hear them that well because people were either talk, or moving chairs.

Do you want to try play the game I explained? How has your day been?

Reading

W.A.L.T create a blog post explaining a work piece we did from last week or this week.

For reading today, we had to read a book called 'Reckless', then write some true or false statements. We then had to buddy up with someone and answer each others statements by writing True or False beside the sentence.
Here is my reading task:

Reflection:

What did I enjoy?
I enjoyed reading the book, then thinking of some statements. Also, after finding something to write, choosing between making it false and true was enjoyable.

What did I do well?
Thinking of statements and how to write them was something I think I did well.

What could I improve on?
I think I could improve on thinking of some statements more faster, I was a little slow.

How's your day today?

Geometric art

W.A.L.T create a blog post explaining our art we did.

For art last this month, we made geometric art. I haven't finished my art so I'll just be showing you one I found on google.

Geometric Dragons - Geometric Collection

How we made it:

First we decided what animal we wanted to draw.

Once we picked what animal we wanted to draw, we either sketched it, or drew an outline of it manully.
We either drew it on a A3 or A4 paper

Once we drew our animal outline, you then have to use a ruler to make sure the lines are straight and not curved.

After that, using your ruler again, fill the inside of the animal with diagonal/straight lines.

When you're finished doing that, you can do any design you want in the inside of the lines in the animal you chose. You can do block colours, paint, dye, patterns, etc.

Once you've decided what pattern/design you want, you can start filling the inside of you animal.

Have you ever done geometric art?

How to use commas

W.A.L.T create a blog post explaining our slideshow we made.

Last week or the week before, me and my buddy, Caleb created a slideshow about commas, and where they go. We had two lessons during writing, after the lesson we went off and did a task about commas, a earlier finisher task was that we had to create a slide show about commas. In our slideshow we had information about commas and where they go. At the end, we created a quiz to test if you learnt anything. Below is our slideshow:

Reflection

What did I enjoy?
I enjoyed writing down information down on the first few slides.

What did I do well?
I think I did well explaining and writing down information about commas.

What could you improve on?
I think I could improve on formatting and decoration the background and text, it seemed simple which I don't mind but I think I could've done a few things to make it stand out more.

Do you know how to use commas in a sentence?

Reading Task

W.A.L.T create a blog post explaining out reading task today.

For reading today, we had to write a letter to our parents saying that we time travelled to the past. (When I say past I mean 2020). Basically I am in the future, and I timed travelled to 2020.

Here is my letter:

In my letter I included what 2020 was like compared to 2031, covid, animal extinction, where I was staying, etc.

Reflection

What did I enjoy?
I enjoyed writing, and thinking on what to write.

What did I do well?
I think I explained well, I wrote everything I wanted to write and I'm proud of my finish product.

What could I improve on?
I think I could improve on making it more realistic and adding a better background.

How do you think the future is gonna turn out like? Do you agree with my on how the future is gonna be like?

Math angles

W.A.L.T create a blog post explaining what I did this week

For maths this term we are learning about angles. This week we have done multiple maths sheet equations, so I thought I'd share with you what I have done. Last year I learnt a bit about angles which made figuring out angles a lot more better .Here is my work sheet:

Reflection:
Doing this maths sheet was easy. I just had to basically do addition, and at the top of the work sheet, it said what the angle was called.

What did I enjoy?
I enjoyed working out what the answer is. It was simple to work out so I could do this maths sheet pretty fast.

What did I find interesting?
What I found interesting was finding out that a triangle could be an angles, specifically a 180 degree angle was a triangle.

Do you know how to measure angles or do you need to use a protractor?

Writing task

W.A.L.T create a blog post explaining our writing task for today.

For writing today, we had to write a descriptive writing. First we had to plan the object we were doing, by writing the 5 senses (Tastes, smells, looks, sounds, feels) then write a descriptive writing for out object. I decided to do a mouse, cause I thought it would be fun to fill out the plan. Here is my plan:

What did I do well?
I did well on writing the senses, I came up with words to write pretty quickly.

What could I improve on?
I think I could've done more descriptive and better adjective words.

How will I use this in my writing?
I will use by adding these senses into my writing to make it a 'descriptive writing. Example: "A mouse is feels soft and smooth"

Reflection on what I enjoyed:
I enjoyed thinking of words to write down, I could write whatever I wanted and be creative. My favourite senses to write about was 'looks'. I could I imagine a cute mouse and then write everything what it looked like. I am very excited to write my descriptive writing!

What animal would've you written?

Matariki Stars

W.A.L.T create a blog post explaining art we did last week.

For Art last week, we had to create a Matariki star to represent the Matariki stars (Seven sisters).
Here is my Matariki star:

Here's how we created it:

1. Using A3 paper, trace 2 small stars, and two big stars.

2. Draw some Moari patterns on the stars.

3. Colour the stars using felts, pastels, or pencils.

4. Glue your 4 stars together and then glue the whole star onto a black paper.

4. With the black paper, trace around the star using a pencil, creating a black border around it.

5. Cut around the star with the black paper.

Reflection on what I enjoyed.
I enjoyed drawing and designing the Moari patterns, then colouring in the design. I enjoyed this because it was oddly satisfying and I could be creative.
My favourite part was colouring in, though it took the longest, it was still really fun.
I think I could definitely improve on the border, it was uneven and wasn't cut that well.

Have you ever done Matariki art?

Ice sheets and shelves

W.A.L.T create a blog post about a task we have done this week.

For reading this week I had to read a book called "Captured in Ice" and then create a google drawing of the different layers of Ice. In the book it showed the different layers and sheets of snow so I just got inspiration from that. We then had to name how deep the Ice goes and write facts about the ice.
Here is my google drawing:

I enjoyed making the different layers of ice, it was really fun making the gradient and how it gets darker and darker. I also enjoyed showing you how many metres down the ice is.

What I didn't enjoy was moving everything around so it looks nice, it took a while and was kinda boring and I had to switch everything around.

I feel like I could improve on decorating the google drawing more, it looks a bit bland and boring.

What do you like about my google drawing? What do you find interesting?

Kiwi Can

W.A.L.T create a blog post explaining what you did today at Kiwi Can

At school today we went to Kiwi Can. This term we are learning about Resilience and Perseverance. The catchphrase today was "When times get tough, we don't despair, we bounce back up and persevere."
The game we played today was Octopus. This was my favourite game cause I love the game Octopus!
How we played:
You have to have a big group of people to be able to play. 2 people in your group have to be the taggers.
Everyone else except the taggers have to line up on a wall or line up somewhere else. You can do it in a field, a big room, etc. You just need somewhere that has a big enough space to run. Once everyone is lined up, the tagger then has to call out something. Example: "If you're wearing blue", Then everyone wearing blue has to run to the other side of the field or room.  While the people are running, the taggers then have to try tag everyone running. If they tag someone, the person that got tagged has to then stand still, they're not allowed to move unless its gang-up, but we didn't do gang-up. Also, if someone got tagged, they are helping the taggers tag people. The game keeps on repeating like before till there is one last runner. Then that last runner is the winner!

Have you played octopus? What is your favourite game?

Art

W.A.L.T upload a piece of art and then blog about it.

For blogging today we had to upload a photo of a drawing/painting we have done in the past year. Here is my art work:

Instructions:

First I drew the shape of the eye
Added a pupil and the inside of the eye
Added eye-lashes
Shaded the eye
I would've added a eye brow but I haven't finished yet.

What I think I did well was drawing the actual eye. It was easy to do and I got inspiration from a image on google.
I think I could improve on shading. Shading isn't my best spot when it comes to drawing. So I definitely could improve on that.
I enjoyed the whole process of making this. I didn't dislike anything when making this drawing.

Do you like the drawing? What do you think I could do better?

Kiwi Can

W.A.L.T create a blog post explaining what we did today at school.
At school today we had Kiwi can for the first time in a while.
I wasn't there for most of it cause I had a quiz to do but when we got there, my class was playing a game. How to play the game:
There are two lines of people. If you're the first person up you have to balance a soft ball on top your hand and try to walk to the next line of people without the ball falling off your hand.
Once you get to the end of the line you have to pass the ball to the person at the front and they have to do the same thing just did. It keeps on going on until the game is over. You can count points of how much people did it without the ball falling but out class didn't count points.
Do you have Kiwi can at your school? Do you wanna play this game?

My work over quarantine

W.A.L.T create a blog post explaining out writing for today.

For writing today we had to go through out slide where we posted all out work we've done during quarantine and it up out our slides. Here is my slide:

My favourite thing about doing work from home was listening to music while working. It made the process more relaxing.
My least favourite thing about working from home was that I missed talking to my friends and showing them my work.

Do you like my slide? Is there anything I can change about it?

Cancel the Invasion word search

W.A.L.T create a blog explaining out reading for today.

For reading today we had to do a word search. We had to find words from the book 'Cancel the Invasion'.

Here is my word search. The most difficult words to find were probably 'reassuring' and 'projectiles' cause they were the only words I couldn't find. The most easiest word to find was 'message' and 'launched' cause they were the first words I found really quickly. How I covered up the words I found was by getting a square on google drawing and then colouring the shape white and covering the word(s). I really enjoyed doing this and I would love to do this again, even in my free time.

Do you like word searches? What is the most interesting word?

Cancel The Invasion Storyboard

I.A.L.T write a blog post about our writing task for today.

For reading today we had to read a book called 'Cancel The Invasion' then do a storyboard about the main scenes in the book. While making our storyboards we had to include...
- Title and author
- Setting
- Characters
- Ideas at the beginning
- Ideas of the middle
- Ideas from the end

I think the main idea of the story is that you shouldn't judge people by their appearance. In this story the 2 kids acted differently to Ash (main character) because he looked "weird" but Ash ended up to be really nice.

Do you like my storyboard?

Newspaper

W.A.L.T create a blog post about our reading task.

For reading today we had to read a book called 'Catching a Space Duck' and then use the information in the book to write a newspaper about the event in the book. Here is my newspaper. I wrote about how The ESA landed a robot on the comet 67P.
What I enjoyed is writing, it was fun to come up with things and then write my ideas down.
What I least enjoyed was nothing, I enjoyed the whole process of creating this. I would love to do it again!

Do you like my newspaper? What can I change about it?

Vocabulary Post

W.A.L.T create a blog post about our learning for today

For reading today we had to choose 3 words out of the book 'My name is Rez' while our teacher gave us the first 3 words. We had to write the definition/meaning of these words and then write a sentence about the word. Here is my post.

Did you already know some of these words? What could've I done better?

Ah Sum's letter

W.A.L.T create a blog explaining our learning for today.

For reading today we had to read a book called Bok Choy, then write in the perspective of one of the main characters and write a letter to his family. Here is the letter I wrote in Ah Sum perspective.

What I enjoyed most about writing this was it was fun looking for a background, changing the font and writing in someone else shoes. I actually enjoyed the whole process of creating this, it was very fun and I'd love to do this again.

Have you ever written a letter? Have you ever wrote something is someone else perspective?

Ah Sum's hut

W.A.L.T create a blog post about our reading for today.

For reading today, we had to read a story called "Bok Choy". In the story there was a part where we could see Ah Sum's hut and we had to try recreate it. Here's my recreation of it, I made it on google drawings but we could either do it on Tinker card, draw it, or do what I did and do it on google drawings. In the story I could see a fireplace, some pillows, blankets, creates/boxes and stone walls.

What I enjoyed about making this on google drawings was adding images from google, it was fun messing around with them and adding them all over the place. I had some difficulty's with the stone wall but I managed to do it!

Have you ever recreated something on a google drawing? Would you live in this hut?

Comprehension questions

W.A.L.T make a blog post about our reading task for today.
Our reading task for today is we had to answer these comprehension questions and the answers are in the book so we had to re-read the book and then answer the questions along the way.

Have you ever answered comprehension questions? Have you ever made some comprehension questions for someone to answer?

Harry's diary entry

W.A.L.T create a blog of a reading task we have done

For reading today we had to create a diary entry of the perspective of Harry in the graphic novel, Harry's war. Graphic novel is also like a comic, it has pictures that a fun to look at.

I enjoyed reading today because it was fun to write something different than what I normally write, it was fun writing in the perspective of someone else and write something the person would write to explain how they are feeling.

Have you written something like this? Have you ever written a graphic novel?

Anzaz Harry's war

W.A.L.T create a scene based on Anzac Harry's war by using LEGO or materials we have at home.

For my reading today, I wanted to make a scene of harry working with a horse.

I mostly enjoyed making the soldier and decorating the scene. For decoration I grabbed some grass, rocks and a tree branch that I found on the ground and I used it for a bush.

Have you ever made something like this before? What Anzac story have you read?

Anzac day poster!

W.A.L.T Discover about Anzac day and then create a poster about it. Here's my poster!
For reading today we had to watch a video about Anzac day and then to create a poster about Anzac day and what we learnt. On this poster I have explained what Anzac day is, why its celebrated, and some background info about it and I also added some photos.
I have learnt a lot about Anzac day this week and I would love to learn so much more about the Anzac's, as I feel like they're our hero's.
I found out today from my Mum that many people bake Anzac cookies on April 25th. This is because these biscuits were sent by wives, mothers and women's groups to soldiers overseas because the ingredients in them do not spoil easily and the biscuits keep well during the long boat journey to our brave soldiers.
Have you ever tried baking Anzac cookies? How do you celebrate Anzac day?

ANZAC Ted

Our reading class for today was to create a ANZAC ted on google drawing. For literacy this week we will be focusing on ANZAC day because ANZAC was on the 27th of April, 2020.

I have written a story about ANZAC ted and I'd like to share it with you.

Ted was a solider in the war, he fought very hard, so he could come home safely to his family. The last war he had fought in was World War 2, he was not expecting a World War 3 to happen until 2050's or somewhere around there. He had a family of 3, Lilian, Lilian's mum, Ashley, and their dog, Charlie. He was very happy and spoilt Teddy. Until July 13th, 2020, 7 AM, everyone in the house was asleep, until Ashley hears a knock at the door... she looks at her phone and thinks "Who's knocking at my door at 7 in the morning?!". She just goes back to sleep thinking its a random person at her door that will go away. She quickly drifts back to sleep not thinking nothing of it. She then wakes up to the noise of Charlie barking like crazy and the person at the door knocking again. "Ugh!" she grunts as she gets out of bed. She slips her slippers on and carefully sneaks past Lilian's room and heads to the stairs and to the front door. Before she unlocks the door she decides to look out the front window in case its someone dangerous. She then sees at man in his 30's standing at her front door wearing a Camo jumper, pants and hat with some black boots. She immediately opens the door to ask this man what he wants, when she opens the door she is greeted by the man, "Hello Ma'am, I'm Dan and I was wondering if Ted lives here?" "Yes, is something wrong?" She replies. "Well I don't know if you've heard but, a World War 3 is happening and we need Ted now." He sadly says. Ashley then starts crying, "Sorry Ma'am, I know its hard.." He says in a sad, deep tone. "How long will he be gone for?" She asks. "Around 4 to 5 years." She starts to run upstairs to go get Ted, while running upstairs she sees Lilian and Ted walking to the stairs, once Lilian see's her mum she asks "Mum! Whats wrong?" She then responds saying "I'm so sorry, Ted is going to World War 3, today." They all started to cry. "Time to pack Ted's bag.." Ashley said. Ashley and Lilian headed down stairs while Ted packed his bags, while packing he found a photo of him and Lilian and wanted to take it with him, so he did. Once Ted was done packing he then walked down stairs to the front door. "I'm done.." "Okay, Ted. Its time to go." Dan said. "Bye Ted.." Said Lilian and Ashley. "I'm gonna miss you so much Ted, see you soon." Said Lilian. "I will too, bye Lilian." Said Ted, he then started to walk away with Dan. He then hoped in a car with Dan, then Dan and Ted drove away to the airport where they will fly to enter in the war.

To be continued!

Have you read ANZAC Ted before?

How to train your dog to close a door

Dogs are very smart, loyal and beautiful animals, they’d do anything for their owners that treat them nicely and with care! I’m going to be explaining to you ‘how to train your dog to close a door’ and I’ll also give you some tips along the way. One of the best ways to teach your dog, big or small is to put some non-transparent tape or a sticky note, that is a different colour to your door, and stick it on your hand. If you want to do it this way, keep reading… you take one of your dog's favourite treats and hold the treats in the opposite hand where the tape or sticky note is. You then want to come up with a word command for your dog, here are some suggestions: Close, door, touch, push, etc. Once you come up with your command, you want to say your command with a voice that is clear enough for your dog to understand and hear clearly. When the tape or sticky note is on your hand, you want to hold your hand in front of your dog's face, not too close. If the dog is not interested in the tape or sticky note, you can smear a treat on it so it smells, the dog will then sniff it. Once you say your command, if the dog hits it lightly with their face you then give them a reward, which is a treat, you then keep repeating this until your dog knows that tape or sticky note is what awards them the treat, you can start moving and positioning your hand in different places, this might be tricky for your dog so you need to be patient, remember it might not happen in all one day. It’s very, very important to be patient with your dog, if your dog doesn't react to the command immediately, wait around 5 seconds before saying your command again. If you keep repeating the command over and over again very quickly, your dog will just expect you to keep repeating the command again, and again and will just ignore you. Once your dog knows how to lightly push on the tape or sticky note, even after moving positions, then you’re ready to move onto the door. Stick some tape or a sticky note underneath your door handle high or low enough so your dog’s face can easily touch it. Once you stick your tape or sticky note to your door, you then point to the tape or sticky note while saying your command first with the door closed, when they touch the tape or sticky note you then reward them with a treat, once they know that their supposed to put pressure on the door, you can move onto doing the same as last time except with the door open. I recommend opening it a little bit but now too close to the door frame. Even if your dog pushes it a little bit, still reward them with a treat, if they manage to push it all the way so the door shuts, give them a jackpot. A jackpot is where you give your dogs around 2-5 treats. I recommend giving your dog 2 treats when they get a jackpot or when they close the door all the way. After your dog has gotten good at closing the door, you can slowly open the door more and more. When the door and the door frame is at a 90 degree angle, you can now start to challenge your dog. Open the door a little bit, not too far, not too close to where the door frame is, and only reward them when they fully close the door, when they don’t fully close the door, wait a few seconds before repeating your command or pointing to the tape, sticky note or door. Be patient and give them a second, because they might figure it out them self. Over time your dog will start to realise that when they hear the door close, that’s when they know that they're done, and they’ve done good. When they know that they have to fully close the door, you can open the door fully, like before, and then try to get them to close the door fully again, they probably won’t get it first try (depending on how fast your dog learns), so keep trying! Remember to reward them when they fully close the door and if they don’t close it full just say your command, point to the tape, sticky note or door after 5 seconds. Thank you for reading this and I hope you will try this with your dog (if you have one) and I wish you the best of luck!

Zentangle Art

W.A.L.T draw Zentangle Art

For the past week, Tui Whanau have been doing Zentangle Art. This is my Art ------>

Here is some steps of how I did it.

How I did this:

Step 1: First I traced a sea animal

Step 2: I then did some Zentangle designs on my animal, don't make your designs to small!

Step 3: Then go over your Zentangle art in Vivid.

Step 4: Cut your art out

Step 5: Get a piece of paper and you can dye and design your background whatever you want!

Step 6: Wait for your background to dry

Step 7: Once your art is dried, you can then glue your art on your dyed paper.

What I enjoyed most about creating my art was... dying the paper, it was satisfying and fun to do! I loved exploring different colours and things I can do. With my dyed art, when I was done I did little splashes of different colours on each colour. It gave this really cool blending sort of effect.

What I found most challenging was... doing my Zentangle art. Most people were at step 3, while I was still doing my art in pencil. I also found doing the vivid hard cause I made some small designs so it was hard to go over them and still make it look good. I did enjoy the process still and I think I did OK.

Have you ever heard of Zentangle art (Before this)? If you had would you like to do art on it? If you followed the steps I gave you, and make you own art, what colour would you use for your background?

Explanation Writing

W.A.L.T write an explanation about bees.

This term Tui Whanau has been learning to write an explanation writing. Here is my writing piece...

How bees make honey

Bees are very hardworking. Did you know that bees have to suck two million flowers to produce only one pound of honey?! That's what you call hard work. Bees also flap their wings two hundred times a second? That's impossible for a human to do!

Bees like collecting nectar in spring, cause that is when flowers bloom. How they collect nectar is by finding a bloomed flower, and the bees suck the nectar out, by using their tongue which is called a proboscis, it's like a straw. It then goes into their honey stomach and then they keep repeating this process until they feel full in their honey stomach.

While they travel back to the honeycomb, which normally takes around 7 days - 2 months so the nectar and the protein has time to mix together in the bees stomach mixes, which it then converts into honey.

When the bees come back to the hive. The honey is then placed into a honeycomb and the bees then flap their wings as fast as they can for the honey to dry out. They then cover it with wax to keep it fresh.

Once the bees are done filling the honeycombs, a beekeeper just has to farm the honey from the hive, put it in a jar, and sell it! That is how honey is made. What I learnt making this is that bees are extremely hard working and a human just has to go to the store, take a honey jar, put it in their basket, trolley, etc, and then pay.

I am most proud of is how I explained the explanation, even though I didn't do the best at planning, so I had very little information, but I tried my best to make it readable, not confusing Things I need to work on is... making the writing more eye catching and not boring, not rushing the writing and making it more complex.

Did you enjoy reading my blog? Do you like bees? Have you ever wrote a explanation?

Bob Ross

W.A.L.T write about one of our favourite artist.

Bob Ross is one of my favourite artist. He was 52 years old before he died of Lymphoma on the 4th of July 1995, which is very sad. He was born on 29th October 1942. Before he passed, he did calming tutorials on YouTube. His videos were about him showing you beautiful paintings hes painted and you can follow along and paint your own one, painting techniques, how to paint things that look hard, and more! You'll have to watch him to see more things he does. Bob has 2 children, Morgan Ross and Steven Ross. Bob Ross has a wife (now ex wife) Called Jane Ross, but she sadly die of Cancer. Bob Ross' current wife is now, Lynda Brown. It unknown if shes still alive. Why Bob Ross is one of my favourite artist is because I love his personality, its very calm, peaceful and wholesome. How I found out about him is because I found some of my mums old paint brushes she used, and I asked her if she used to paint. She replied back saying "Yes, I used to follow tutorials of Bob Ross.", and that's how I found out about him.

Going to the beach!

W.A.L.T write about something we did in the weekends.

On Saturday last week my mum, my baby brother, our dogs, and I went to doubtless bay. The waves weren't that big but it was still really nice! Doubtless was like a massive swimming pool! The tide was out so we had to walk really far so it could even be up to my waist. The highlight of the day swimming there was when I was swimming with my family, and our dogs were playing, my dog, TJ, (Shes only a few months old) came chasing after us in the water and she can barely swim, she'd only be able to survive for about 2 minutes if she tried, well since she came chasing after us, it were deep for her where we were in the water, so she couldn't touch the ground! So I had to go chase after her before she starts having trouble swimming. I was surprised I got TJ because I was laughing so hard cause she looked so silly and funny when she was "swimming". I then carried TJ into the deep water to rinse of a bit cause she was really sandy, I then carried her back to the shallow and tried to go back in the deep end but she just kept on following me so I had to stay in the shallow part and wait until my mum and my baby brother got out of the water. Once they got out, I went to go a short swim in the deep part, it was really warm and it was relaxing. I then got out cause my mum was calling my name. The end!

Diary of a Wimpy Kid, The Last Straw

W.A.L.T read a book and then write about it.

I am reading Diary of a Wimpy Kid, The Last Straw, by Jeff Kinney.
Its about a kid called Greg Heffley. He lives with his mum and dad,and his 2 brothers, Rodrick and Manny. Greg is talking about his family's New Year Resolutions. The school then becomes "rezoned" to the Whirley Street neighbour hood, so Greg and his best friend, Rowley have to walk to and from school. Greg also has to deal being compared to his fathers Frank's boss's sons, who play sports and always be outside exercising. That's all I've read and I'm excited to read more!

Have you ever read the book I'm reading?

My school goals!

W.A.L.T write goals for ourselves and trying to reach those goals before 2021.

What goals do you have for this year?

Millie Bobby Brown

W.A.L.T finding a person who we look up to, and we write facts about them.
I look up to Millie Bobby Brown. She is a British actor, but she then moved to America with her 2 older siblings, her parents and younger sibling. She taught herself an American accent by watching Disney shows. She was originally born in Spain. Millie Bobby Brown starred in the Netflix series as Eleven in, Stranger Things. Did you know that Millie shaved her head for the role Eleven? Millie Bobby Brown can actually rap. On one of Jimmy Fallon's videos, she summarised and rapped what happened in season 1 of Stranger Things. She is 16 years old, her birthday is 19 February 2004. She is a actress, model and a film producer. Now, she has her own make-up, skin care line called, Florence by Mills. She sells make-up that is made out of natural things, no chemicals.

Who do you look up to?

Water balloon challenge!

W.A.L.T learn new techniques when working together as a team.

What we did was that we have a team of 6-3 and we have form a circle and one person with have the balloons and then with our group and we gotta chuck the balloon to the person next to us and they have to try catch it. If the balloons pops, you're whole team is out. The last team standing is the winner!
What I enjoyed the most was how challenging it was cause you could throw the balloon to far or not far enough.
What I found challenging was that you have to be very careful and gentle with throwing it and catching it, and seeing the balloon go around your group and worrying that the balloon might pop.
Our team ended up winning and one of our team members, Desiree, got all wet cause the balloon popped when she caught it.

Would you like to play this challenge? Would you do good at this if you played?

Team Building: Spaghetti and Marshmallow tower!

Spaghetti and Marshmallow tower!

W.A.L.T work together as a team and build a tower using Spaghetti and Marshmallows.

My team (Jess, Peyton, Frances, Desiree) and I, worked together to build a tower only using Spaghetti and Marshmallows. First we cut the Marshmallows in half and then we stick them to the Spaghetti sticks and make our way up. Our goal is to build the most stable and tallest tower, the team that builds the most stable and highest tower within the time limit, wins!

Our team ended up winning so hooray for us!

Would you work well together with people in your school? Have you ever built a tower like this?

About me

Greetings! I’m Mia, I am 11 years old, turning 12 this year. I go to Kaingaroa School and I’m a year 7 in Tui Whanau. I like to watch and play games on my devices, go outside and play with my dogs, swimming, writing stories and much more! I am European with a little bit of Samoan. I was born and raised in Auckland, New Zealand. 10 years later my mum, and I then moved to the Karikari Peninsula. I like elephants, hippos, turtles, and Mole rats, don’t ask. I have two brothers, a stepmom and my parents. I can’t see my brothers and my Dad that often cause they sadly live in Auckland. :c My favorite food is Butter Chicken! When I lived in Auckland, I used to go to this place called “Oh Calcutta” and it sold the most amazing Butter Chicken!
I’m so excited for this year and I can’t wait to post on my blog, share my learning with others, and learn more about everyone!

Welcome to my Blog.
